BMW 4-serie Coupé M4 Competition

When BMW introduced the successor to the E92 M3 in 2014, it marked the first time in history that the model would carry a different name. The renowned M3 designation remained reserved for the sedan, while the coupé and convertible versions were given a new identity: M4. Internally designated as the F82, the new model was regarded as the direct successor to the immensely beloved E92, and as such, it carried a remarkably heavy legacy on its shoulders.

The engineers in Munich opted for a striking change of direction. Whereas the E92 featured a magnificent naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V8, the F82 returned to the roots of M3 history with an inline-six configuration, albeit a very special one. The S55B30 engine displaced 2,979 cc and featured twin mono-scroll turbochargers, a development that increased output to 431 horsepower at launch while delivering a significant leap in torque compared to its naturally aspirated predecessor. The result was a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds and, when equipped with the optional M Driver’s Package, a top speed of 290 km/h.

In March 2016, BMW introduced the Competition Package to the lineup. Through refined engine mapping, a revised exhaust system, and Adaptive M suspension specifically developed for this version, power output rose to a clean 450 horsepower while the car’s handling characteristics became even sharper and more precise. In 2017, the LCI update followed, bringing revised LED taillights and a more sophisticated front light signature. From the 2019 model year onward, the carbon fiber driveshaft was replaced by a conventional unit to make room for an Otto Particulate Filter, ensuring compliance with the new WLTP emissions regulations. The example presented here is one of these WLTP-compliant Competition models.

Although sourcing exceptional cars for our collection remains a challenge each and every time, we were immediately enthusiastic upon seeing this stunning BMW M4 Competition. This post-LCI F82 was first registered on February 6th, 2019, and only entered the hands of its first Dutch owner on June 17th, 2020. Originally delivered in Germany, the car spent the first months of its life there before making its way to the Netherlands.

With a mileage of just 35,909 kilometers, this is undoubtedly one of the least-driven Competition examples currently available on the market. The bodywork is finished in a subtle metallic brown shade, paired with a black leather interior, a combination that feels both sporty and understated. Since its first Dutch registration, the M4 has had only two owners, with the most recent ownership dating back to September 30th, 2020 a clear indication that the current owner has treated the car with exceptional care and discipline.

The powerful 450-horsepower twin-turbocharged inline-six still performs exactly as BMW M intended, while the automatic transmission delivers fast and refined gear changes. The Dutch APK inspection remains valid until April 2nd, 2027.

With appreciation for the F82 M4 continuing to grow and the era of naturally sounding combustion-powered performance cars slowly coming to an end, examples such as this are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
